What Is an SDS Plus Bit
SDS Plus is the 10 mm-class slotted shank for rotary hammers — tool-free insert, hammer energy goes straight to the tip. It is the standard for concrete, brick and stone drilling from roughly 4 to 32 mm.
Tip Geometry: 2-Cutter vs 4-Cutter
- 2-cutter (wedge) — cheaper, fine for soft brick but can bind in rebar.
- 4-cutter (cross) — cleaner round holes, resists binding; FANXI 2017 SDS Plus uses a 4-cutter tip for exactly this.
RPM by Diameter (Guideline)
- 5–6 mm → ~900–1,100 RPM
- 8–10 mm → ~700–900 RPM
- 12–16 mm → ~500–700 RPM
- 20–28 mm → ~350–500 RPM
Material Match
- Concrete / brick / stone → standard SDS Plus (FANXI 2017 / 2021).
- Heavy concrete / demolition → step up to SDS Max (FANXI 5016 / 5017).
- Tile / glass → switch to a TCT spear or diamond bit; never an SDS masonry bit.
Life Tips
Pull the bit out every few seconds to clear dust, avoid side-loading (cracks the shank), and use hammer mode only on masonry. Bulk SDS Plus with DIN-rated carbide: vincent@lutools.com.
